Edge Grinder, a Shoot’em Up in the spirit of R-Type, was released some days ago. It was programmed for “Format War”, which main idea is to start developing games for different machines. The lead platform for Edge Grinder was that C64, well, and Paul Kooistra, who already brought such great games like Sub Hunter, Star Sabre and Dead on time to the CPC, did it and converted Edge Grinder to the CPC. You can read more about the story of the game, get the source code and of course download it on its Format War page. I also added a download to this posting.
A new platform game was released by GG and ESP Soft. Because there is only a spanish version of the game, I can’t tell you more about it, but it is very hard to play and features a nice retro style. You can download it from Amstrad.es and at the end of this posting.
The CPC version of the game Sub Hunter, written by Richard Bayliss and Frank Gasking, is now available for download at Psytronik. The game was converted by Paul Kooistra, who already brought us the games Star Sabre and Dead on Time. It features 25 levels where you have to destroy the fishs and save the swimmers. The download includes the disk and tape version. If you want to buy a physical copy instead, you can get one from the Binary Zone Interactive Retro Store.
Video review of the game by Xyphoe:
Currently the team “Easter Egg” (Fano, TotO, iXien) is working on a remake of R-Type, because the original Amstrad CPC was only a bad Spectrum port. Now they give us a preview, which is presented by Xyphoe, so you can see how R-Type could have looked if they had more time for a real CPC port.
If you want to discuss about this video, have a look at the thread in the CPCWiki forums.
The Mojon Twins the first game in 2011 for the Amstrad CPC. The game starts where the first game finished: You leaved the Storm Palace and are now in Phantomas’ Electric garden (a setting of another Mojon Twins game). Strange enough you notice that your hard collected coins disappeared, so you have to collect them again – or will you just leave without collecting all coins? It’s your decision…
Uwol 2 is a successor of the game Uwol, which wasn’t released yet (but will be in the future) and is, like all other Mojon Twins games, a multi-platform game. You can also get the source code as usual
.
Download the game directly from the Mojon Twins homepage or at the end of this new posting.
[UPDATE]
A bugfix version was released on January 15, 2011.
