Bryce just released a new library for the electronics layout program EAGLE, which contains parts which were often used in 8bit computers. It includes parts such as:

Sound / Speech:

  • SPO256
  • MEA8000
  • AY-3-8910
  • AY-3-8912 (24 + 28pin)
  • SID

CPC Specific:

  • CRTC6845
  • ACID
  • 50way edge Socket
  • Cartridge PCB edge

Floppy Controllers / Data Seperators:

  • UPD765
  • FDC9216

All parts include schematic symbols and footprints including stoplack, silkscreen, names, values, etc. The pins have also been correctly defined to allow proper ERC and DRC confirmation checks. After three and a half years Nurgle updated his dsktools package for Linux. With the dsktools you can read and write DSK images to a floppy drive (USB drives are unsupported!). The new version now supports double sided disks, so you can now transfer newer productions like R-Type under Linux, too. You can download the latest version of the dsktools from the Berlios project page.

Norecess released an update to his nice utility which makes it possible to use the Pasmo assembler instead of the in SDCC included ASZ80 assembler. This allows you to use a more familiar (Maxam style) assembly syntax. You can download it from Norecess’ homepage. You can also find my SDCC example project for the Code:Blocks IDE and a small coding tutorial on his page, too.

Changes:

  • source compatibility with ASM codes generated by SDCC v3.1.0

Hooray, there it is: the long awaited Amstrad CPC version of R-Type by Easter Egg. Ok, we already had a R-Type version for the CPC, but it was ported in just 21 days from the Sinclair Spectrum and looks like all the other Spectrum ports. Team Easter Egg got the original Spectrum source code and did an own port which perfectly fits the CPC. So this game is a must – so now you can download it from http://www.rtype.fr.
