Edge Grinder, a Shoot’em Up in the spirit of R-Type, was released some days ago. It was programmed for “Format War”, which main idea is to start developing games for different machines. The lead platform for Edge Grinder was that C64, well, and Paul Kooistra, who already brought such great games like Sub Hunter, Star Sabre and Dead on time to the CPC, did it and converted Edge Grinder to the CPC. You can read more about the story of the game, get the source code and of course download it on its Format War page. I also added a download to this posting.

A slight correction; Format War’s “collabortitions” aren’t just about taking a C64 game and converting it, any machine can be the start platform but the first game we did originated on the C64 because we needed to start somewhere and i took the lead! Hopefully we’ll see more of these collaborative projects instigated on different machines. =-)
Hi TMR,
thanks for your comment. I tried to update the news to better fit the idea of Format War. I really like the idea of the Format War and hope that there will emerge some cool new games for the different platforms :-).
